A lot of homeowners have slopes in their backyard that just sit there - unusable, awkward, and honestly kind of frustrating. You look at it, you know there's potential, but it's hard to picture what to do with it. That's exactly the situation we were working with here.
The goal was to take a graded yard and turn the elevated section into something the homeowners could actually use. We built a Verti-Block retaining wall to hold back the grade and create a solid, level platform behind the house. Verti-Block is built for exactly this kind of job - it's engineered for strength, handles the lateral pressure from the soil, and has a clean look that holds up for years. No patchwork, no guessing.
Once the wall was in place, the upper area became a real outdoor space. Large-format pavers went down across the whole patio surface, and a built-in staircase connects the lawn below to the patio above. Everything is tied together - the wall, the steps, the paver surface - so it flows naturally instead of feeling pieced together.
The end result is a backyard that actually works. There's room to set up seating, entertain, and move around comfortably. The lower lawn stays intact too, so you get both levels functioning well. It stopped being a yard people worked around and started being a yard people actually spend time in.
If you've got a slope, a grade change, or an area of your yard you've been ignoring because it just doesn't work - that's exactly the kind of problem we solve. A well-built retaining wall isn't just structural. It's what makes the rest of the yard possible.
